Gem Mining, Rock Mineral Hunting

Did you know that North Georgia, as well as North Carolina and Tennessee, are known for finding gems like sapphires, rubies and emeralds?

Burra Burra Mine:  In 1983, the Burra Burra Mine Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The State of Tennessee purchased the Museum on March 9, 1988 to be the first state-owned historic industrial site.  Come and visit the unique Copper Basin.  Discover their history in the Ducktown Basin Museum, enjoy the very special scenery of the region, and meet the people.  Collect garnets and massive pyrite.
